Welcome to the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the seat of the Archbishop of Newark and the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Newark. As our mother church, the Cathedral is the center of our community of faith.
At the Cathedral, Cardinal Tobin welcomes new Catholics, ordains new priests and deacons, administers the sacrament of confirmation, and celebrates the Chrism Mass as well as the liturgies of the Sacred Triduum. Special Masses are also celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica each year for groups such as school children, the sick and their caregivers, public servants, and more.
The Cathedral Basilica is also home to a parish community of disciples who gather here to worship, serve, learn, and receive the sacraments on a very regular basis.
